I changed the remote control battery with a new one but it didn't help. The remote control circuit looked ok at first when I had a look a few months ago (need to check again). Do you have any idea of what could be wrong ? Is there a central locking relay somewhere ? Thanks! Do you mean the key fob lock, or the lock switch on the doors? | | | Re: Central locking | Joined: Nov 2019 Posts: 50 Likes: 1 journeyman | OP journeyman Joined: Nov 2019 Posts: 50 Likes: 1 | Hey Kursed, by central locking, I meant the key fob lock. Is there a way to determine if the key fob is dead/faulty or if it's the "receiving" part ? I thought of trying to pair the key fob with the van again, but I don't even know how to do that. | | | Re: Central locking | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,286 Likes: 559 | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,286 Likes: 559 | What brand is the alarm & fob.....

Could this be aftermarket add-on. I had a 1989 Blazer that still had to be opened with the key. | | | Re: Central locking | Joined: Nov 2019 Posts: 50 Likes: 1 journeyman | OP journeyman Joined: Nov 2019 Posts: 50 Likes: 1 | What brand is the alarm & fob..... I'll sent a picture of the fob back home. Did 87 have a factory remote opening system? Could this be aftermarket add-on. I had a 1989 Blazer that still had to be opened with the key. That's a good point.. I wondered too. 87 seems early to me, but that's my first van. I think I'd need to dig a bit to find the locking system. Maybe near the fuse box or in some other place : I read that conversion vans may have a 2nd fuse box... | | | Re: Central locking | Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 2,290 Likes: 137 veteran | veteran Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 2,290 Likes: 137 | What I've found on most of them that were inoperable, both factory and aftermarket, were they needed to be cleaned really well. Take the fob apart and use some isopropyl alcohol on a Q-tip to clean the contact points on the main board. You can clean under the rubber contacts really well also. They usually get a bit of black goo on the contact point of the board which causes the contact to go wonky. This guy on YouTube has a great tutorial on doing this. Also, I have 3 newer Chevy's 1999 and up, and all my key fobs have the GM logo stamped in the backside of the case. GM stamps most of their products so you know that they are factory OEM. | | |
