Hey guys, I've got a 1992 G20 with a tired ol 4.3 in it, and I believe a 700r4. Will a 350 bolt up to existing tranny and motor mounts? I have a good running 350/th400 in my '66 pickup that I'm pulling to do LS swap. Would I be better off using the th400? I'd really like to keep the overdrive for mileage. I also considered leaving my truck alone and putting the LS/4l60e in the van, but I haven't seen many LS swaps, and feel like the 350 would be pretty easy swap and have me back daily driving the van in a weekend. Thanks for any input!
Quick and dirty is the 350/700r4 trans combo. You’ll need new motor mounts for the bigger 8 cylinder block but it will work fine with the 700r4. Your van already has the crossmember for it and will give you OD. LS swap would be cool, there are a few folks in here who’ve done it but is a lot of work and depends on what you want out of the van. Check the readers rides section and you’ll find some examples.
I’d leave the LS for the truck personally as that would be fantastic to drive with a modern drivetrain and worth more in the end.
Thanks, that's the answer I was looking for. If I buy "stock" G20 V8 motor mounts, they will position the engine correctly for the 700r4's current position?
Trans stays in the same place. It has a cross member and trans mount that’s all OEM and they did both motors with those transmissions. You can keep the trans, driveline, etc..
That being said, 92 is all fuel injection so it won’t be a direct drop in. You’ll have to keep all the functioning ignition, carb, vacuum lines, etc all that is making your 66 go down the road. Connections like oil pressure and engine temp may have be to figured out, not sure if all that is the same.
Hey Harley you can fit a 454 with a 4L60E in there if you want to … a 350 no problems

Either way you go, the engine mounts are the same, but it's the mount towers that you'll need and these are tough to get. Expect some junkyard trips for find the V8 towers.

I just did the same swap on my 1991 G10 - took out TBI 4.3 and put in a 700R4 with a 350 SBC and a Holley classic - you need different motor mount bases from a wrecked v8 van - and if you put long headers in you may need to modify the transmission cross member - getting rid of TBI crap is easy but you'll need a different fuel pump. I LOVE my van now - so much simpler and the power is great - I can maintain speed on hills! A crazy concept after the 4.3.
