I started tearing down the van today. The tires and wheels are junk so new ones are on the way. I ordered a 75 E100 tank for fun and while it would fit, I would need to get creative with the filler hose. It would be more work than what I want to do at the moment so it’ll be cheaper to boil and repair the original tank.
The grille is off and the engine is exposed. A new radiator is on the way and I’ll be replacing some questionable parts like the water pump, alternator, fuel pump, distributor, cap, plugs, wires, oil filter... etc.

There’s a few things that are also troubling me, the hood is straight but doesn’t line up flush. She’s been hit before but not enough to be a salvage title. But this is troubling. Oh well, time to dig in.

I removed the grille and the rear gas tank on Saturday. Lot's of rust and dust. It came from near the ocean so I'm not too surprised, but the rust is concerning me. It isn't anything structural (yet), but I will probably have to address it in the future.

I went to our local flea market today and scored some parts. A set of mud flaps that fit the crusty look of the van and an old glass door knob to replace the large 8 ball that currently rubs the steering wheel. There was an upholstery vendor who had brown marbled marine vinyl that matched my interior, which is good because I have a a panel that is bare.

I've also started in to my private stash of NOS parts for a small block Ford. The tank goes in for repair this week and I'll order up the parts to be replaced. I kept finding NOS CB radios at the flea, but they were well out of my price range.

I also started stripping out the wiring that went nowhere. There was a lot, including those air horns. All the bum wiring has hit the trash.

You have the power brake setup in there, what radiator did you find that will fit?

I took measurements of the one in there and found a direct fit on O'Reilly's site. I will compare once it arrives. I believe my Mustang one would have even fit in there.

The tank is totally shot. It had some hidden rust holes that punched through the tank after riding in my trunk for two days. Thankfully the '75 didn't go back yet so it will have to work. I will have to have a muffler shop make me a curved pipe for for the filler hoses and tack weld her into place. That will be this weekend to run the logistics of it.

I installed the '75 E100 tank in the van today. It totally fits, you just have to get a 90 degree bend metal tube from a muffler shop and you're in business. I also used two different hoses, a flex fuel hose and a standard hose.

It also needed a longer J hook, so I fashioned some from a U bolt.

It took me most of the day to get it all figure out and buttoned up. Next is blowing out the steel line to make sure it isn't rusted, see how well it holds the fuel and to make sure the new filler doesn't leak.

Thank you, everyone. I am really excited for how she's shaping up. I was able to score some patriot side pipes in the area from a guy who just wanted them out of his shop for way less than he bought them for. I will have them mocked up for this coming Saturday. What I am most looking forward to is getting that tank hooked up this week.
