Plans are progressing to have the 50th Australian Van Nationals in its original location of Mildura, Victoria in 2025.

Are you listening Council of Councils?

Time again to start thinking about the 50th Van Nationals in 2022 and going back to where it all started August 10 1973 at Tiger Run, Colorado. Now, this would be the perfect way to celebrate vanning and bring media attention to vanning and re-booting the love of vanning for the next generation.

Now, I hope someone brings this up at one of the official meetings of the Council of Councils to get the ball rolling.

Hopefully this thread will build and show an early interest in making this event happen.

great idea but here is the issue. Not many clubs in Colorado. maybe only one and the other issue how vans would really show up. maybe a couple of 100 at the most. that is why most of the nationals have been on the eastern side of the Mississippi river. Anyway its a ways off and still need to get though next year and the following year.

this would be a van nationals topic, not a council of councils topic, as CofC has nothing to do with where the nats are held.

and if you want a nats on colorado, then someone from colorado needs to find a location and submit a bid to host it.

Well, it seems there is not much interest in going back to where it all started in 2020 at Tiger Run, Colorado for the 50th Anniversary. Could be because it's way to early to be thinking about it but I hope the discussion heats up as we get closer to 2020. cheers

I will be there whether there are one or ten vans. Just a fun thing to do. devil

Callahan - Start a petition and a movement - I know others have voiced similar opinions. Specifically the Street Survivors van club over in from the midwest. For this to happen in CO, there first needs to be a group willing & able to host this in CO - then present it to Council of Councils when the time comes. The SSVC seemed keen on trying to assemble a group to organize and host. Hit 'em up. Some clubs could team up, maybe it can be pulled off. You don't necessarily need to be from Colorado, you can technically plan to host the event from afar although much greater geographical disadvantages during planning & setup/breakdown. It's just a far drive for much of the midwest/northeast current 2% vanner base who currently host & keep the truck-in spirit going strong almost every weekend during nice weather seasons. You need a certain number of vans through the gates to cover the fixed costs. Pretty sure Nats Board has a nice kitty to help if you win the bid to host leftover from the recent IL nats. I'm no expert on how this all goes down, but have done my best to understand it all. I'd surely be game to help spread the hype ( I run @vannationals instagram - we currently have about 6,000 followers) alongside Matchstick/Custom Vanner Magazine. Maybe more of the west coasters can realistically try & drive to the event. Minnesota 2020 is a good test about as far west as it's been in awhile. But they've got a good enthusiastic crew ready to host a fun party! For 50th - first we gotta do 48&49 - then a group's gotta be willing & able to execute in Colorado because it's no small feat as I understand it!
I like where your head's at with takin' it back for the bi-centurion!
Figured I'd chime in here - maybe ignite some other old timers on here to chime in with some wisdom & opinons.

According to everybody I've talked to that was there the site itself kind of sucked. It was in the desert with not many facilities. That's why nobody I've talked to want to go back. Including Colorado people.

I would love to drive out to Colorado for a truck in, especially the nats. I have family out there and there is some really beautiful country and don’t feel like it would be that hard to find a site that’s not desert.

Im envious of most of these events being in the backyards of most of you who are in the Midwest or east coast. Doing this last run to 29 Palms got me the itch to do it more and more.
