Well it's been nearly six years since the paint job and overall it has held up pretty well. The gutters/rain troughs are rusting pretty bad now, and in places there was previously. The rust that was there before was supposedly repaired when the bodywork was done and the van painted. It has been parked in a carport with 3 solid walls up until the past few months so hasn't been exposed to rain, snow or salt. I think the "sealer" used on the gutters is reacting with the metal or the old sealer. All of the old sealer wasn't removed and the new stuff went right over it, and it is now separating from the van as well.
Has anyone ever had a roof cut off and replaced? If so around how much is the cost I'm looking at? I don't have the place, equipment or expertise to do something like this myself, so a body shop of some sort would be in order.
On the bright side, I took the van to a local dual car show here last month. One side for all original antiques, and one side for customized or non-antiques. The van earned a top 25 trophy after participant voting in the customized or non-antiques side. Yes there were more than 25 vehicles, LOL, probably around 80 to 100 and more on the original antique side. A few days later the heater core puked up in the driveway. I guess all the excitement was just too much...
