92+ Ford- Where to mount an aftermarket tachometer?

Since the 92+ Fords have the airbag in the steering wheel, and since the steering column is rectangular and not round, I cannot use the old hose-clamp-around-the-column trick to mount a tach in my new 95 E150.

What have other fourth generation (92+) Ford van owners done about mounting a tach? I have a pillar mounted triple gauge pod from GlowShift already, now i am looking for how to mount a tach.

Thanks.

Anyone? Anyone? Nobody with a 92+ Ford is running an aftermarket tach?

I'm not really familiar with that year of the Ford van. Could you mount it lower like on the dog house or something ? Do you have an overhead console in your van ? Even if you don't maybe up top some place ?

The doghouse isn't really an option. Too low and no good mounting options. There is an overhead console, but I think mounting on the console would block the operation of the sun visor. I think I will have to figure out a way to mount it on the A pillar. I will keep thinking about it. Thanks for responding, though!

Why not on top of the dash, off center towards the A-Pillar ? In sight there, but not in the way...

I hacked out the useless analog ammeter from my Dodge's gauge cluster and installed a Tach. Your ford got any similarly useless gauges, or a clock?

I have a thing about cutting extra holes in the dash. I am always worried about what I would do if I later decide to move the gauge. I have decided to mount it on the A pillar. I have a generic A pillar pod, I just haven't had time to get to it.

The 92+ Fords have a pretty useful gauge setup stock and there isn't really a place to cut one out like there is on a Dodge with the ammeter.

If you use a hellish long hose clamp it will still clamp on the rectangle column. It's flexible enough it doesn't care what shape it's wrapped around. Or just screw the bracket to the column, maybe on either top corner might be easiest because of the curve in the bracket already. There's a hundred ways you could do it, just have to decide which works best for you. If I had a high performance setup in my van I'd get a big obnoxious tach with a giant shift light and smack it right in the middle of the dash angled toward the driver.

Thanks, but I am sticking with my a-pillar plan. I found a custom molded triple gauge holding a-pillar and I will be putting it there.
