Sooo been trying to figure out what this black plastic orb is and what it used to connect to. Can't find reference to it in either the Chilton or Haynes manual.

5/32 vacuum hose comes off it, connects to a Y adapter with a single wire sensor of some kind, goes to another Y adapter that's plugged on the extra port, goes to a 5/32 -> 7/32 adapter.... and that hose has completely degraded.

I'm assume it connects to this small hose that one of the previous owners plugged with a bolt on the intake manifold just in front of the distributor.

Am I correct that this is where this hose used to connect? Does anyone know what system this is or why it might be plugged like this?
I'm guessing in some sort of environmental control system a previous owner decided was undesirable to have connected. Vehicle runs great, doesn't smoke or idle weird, has plenty of power, getting decent (10-13) mileage.

It is just a vacuum reserve tank. So that when the vacuum in the engine goes up and down, there is enough volume to run things during the low times.

Thank you! That makes sense that it would plug into the IM. Really wonder why someone would plug that up. I'll see how it runs with that hose replaced.
