I grew up in custom vans so I'm not new to the scene. I was able to attend the last month's Nationals in Greenfield Massachusetts at the fairgrounds. Excellent showing of vans.
My first car was a 1982 Chevy g20 shorty...I had it all through high school and when I went off to college I was forced to sell it. that was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made, boy do I wish I still had the van now. Over the last few decades I have really looked back and wondered? Anyway I have been combing through the classifieds over the last two and a half years and finally came up with something that presented itself. Hence: the 1995 Chevrolet G30 7.4 l big block 146"extended cargo.
My number one question as I begin to bring this baby back to life is just how where she is cuz I've looked and looked and looked and I was looking for a 454 factory in the newest one I could find but of course it had to be in the g body.
Thanks and I look forward to conversing with you folks more often and finding a club here in Connecticut.

I've seen friskes vans online. I saw the Holy Diver and another big boy (ochre, no windows, 73ish grille, big wheels, sweet!) at the Nats. Also had a 2 tone blue G30 lead our little caravan from Mass back to Illinois. These things are really growin on me. I'm gonna have to start looking for the next project!
The only G30 extended I saw it at the Nationals this year was a almost gold or brownish one but I didn't have time to walk the entire fairgrounds I'm sure I miss pockets of the show. We have more time tonight I think I took a picture of it I'll try to upload one to see if you're talkin about the same one?

I have a question. I do not know, and have tried to determine where my 1990 7.4 motor came from. Still don't know if it came from the Tonawanda engine plant. Both Frscke1's motors have the Tonawanda sticker on the valve covers. Mine does not, but it is a Canadian van. All the Canadian BBC G vans I've seen have the Tonawanda motor. Wikepedia has edited out all mention of the Tonawanda 454! WTH?
Vin digit 1 = Flint Truck Assembly. First digit 2, would indicate a Canadian built unit from Scarborough Van assembly plant Canada.
Scarbourough was closed in 1993 when all G van production moved to Flint. That would explain no more Canadian Vin 2 G vans after 1993. But where did the BBC motors come from for Flint production, after Scarborough closed?
Which begs the elusive 454 7.4 Tonawanda Engine question??? Flint Truck had an engine plant. The Tonawanda plant wasn't the only GM engine plant to build the 454. It was just the best. Shame the history is being purged. But I digress. So. The search continues...

What's under your Doghouse???!
the valve covers on my big block Chevy van do not have the Tonawanda 454 logos in the center of the valve covers.
The engine was replaced about 10,000 miles ago with a fully remanufactured unit it has a tag on the other underside which I will get for you but I don't remember what it was.

That looks similar to Sahara Gold which is an early factory color and judging by the grill swap, they are trying for an early look (too bad the 60/40 doors are a dead give away). That looks great regardless!
Welcome,Eden. I’m down the road in New Haven area. I, too was up to Nats this year ,first time since the 24th Nats in PA. I drive my two tone blue‘85 GMC Safari with a sbc 305. I got pretty jacked up on this game and while scanning for local parts I found a classic 1976 Vandura Show Van last seen at ‘82 Nats. A few weeks later “Midnight Safari “ was mine ! A good cleaning, tuneup and checkup and it’ll be roadworthy. Let’s keep in touch and plan that trip to Minnesota.haha

I’ve got a 95 G30 with the 454, unfortunately not an extension. I got it in 2005 with 100k and 10k on a freshly rebuilt drivetrain from the fan to the rear axle. Right now as I drive I’ve got 292,498.7 miles on her. She still runs amazing ! I’ve parked her for 3/4 years at a time at least twice now and another time she was parked for 2 years. Always in my barn of course. But I got it with with everything behind the front seats taken out. So just plywood on the floor and the blue steel on irs sides and roof lol. Window van. I put carpet in the back 3 years ago when I started working in the AV world. As a sound man I have my own PA and all the gear a band would need to play a show. So I regularly drive it 3-500 miles a week during the season all over the mid Atlantic and in the Shenandoah valley a lot. All my gear, basically the completely full is about 45-4800 pounds of gear and she [censored] rocks ! Gets up to 70/75 no problem and when it do it seems the air flow gets moving right underneath her and she just floats along. Drives much much more stable and easily with all that weight in it at 70 plus then at 50

Nice G30 Jesse. I'd think the BBC in the regular wheelbase van would be more rare the in the EXT's, for any model year of production from 1990, through 1995.
IDK if the 7.4 or the 8.1 were offered in the new GMT 400 Van platform or not, beginning in 1996. But the BBC's were available in both the truck and Avalanche up until the LS motor became standard, circa 2000.
BBC Van on!
