I haven’t decided on what I’m doing with my barn door panels but did score some nice dark wood paneling that I may use. I have wood paneling on my white van and that’s old OG stuff and had some brown plastic edge trim but it’s old, brittle and breaks really easily. Not a good solution but the idea of capping the edge is nice.

For anyone who has made their own wood door panels out of paneling, what did you use on the edges? Did you stain it? Use another flexible trim? Looking for ideas to finish it off nice.

Not my door but the condition I’d like to address (the cut edge around the door panel)

Damned shame you can't get a brown or colored door edge guard like back in the day. My twin brother and I worked at a trim shop in the early 80's when body side moulding and door edge guard was hot. We had it in all colors, trim brite and 3m used to make it.

I wonder if I could use this...

The paneling is very dark brown and the door jambs will be black so it could work.

If you search online for "Gimp molding", you'll find the sort of edge molding you're looking for. There are also variants of it with dual channels for joining two panels meeting in line or at 45 or 90 degrees, for instance.

I've posted about gimp molding here in the past. I'll see if I can find if the link I included at that time is still live.

Deathorvictory, here's the link which I'd posted in the past about panel edge molding. They carry both rigid and flexible types of gimp molding. You can achieve a really nicely finished interior with this stuff - tell all your friends! smile

Once you see what all is available, you may even go for broke and come up with some sweet fresh custom interior designs! ;)

Awesome thank you that’s amazing! I am looking for the cap style molding, I may see about ordering some of their flexible cap if they carry it in their dark cherry. I bought some black that’s really nice and flexible but would prefer a closer color match.

Thanks again

What kind of wood is this? I was thinking about doing like MFD or real thin wood and wrapping it in vinyl. Im concerned about stability though.
