I'm seeking some experienced advice before refreshing my tired suspension on a 1990 G30 GMC 5.7. The engine is new, the diff rebuild, time for improved suspensions and steering.
The goal is a reliable OEM ride. Maintenance was neglected by previous owners so any good advice is appreciated.
Right now the steering is very sloppy, apparently legal and the chassis bounces after every road bump. So far, I've replaced the bump stops and sway bar bushings, which were all cracked.
Now I'm sourcing shocks and front springs. If there is a magic recipe for these van's ?
A few questions, I found
Front shocks : part: 88945302 $41.86/shock - seems inexpensive is it worth going to a Bilstein for $123.79/shock?
Front coil $90.56/side (www.parts.com
Bilstein also falls under "heavy duty" compared to "original ride quality" is this a harsh ride designed for larger engines?
Also I have zero experience with leaf springs, no idea if they need replacing or not.
Happy to listen, or be directed to older build threads or sites.
Thanks in advance.
My van has 150,000 miles
