Looking to swap out the motor (and fuel tank and lines) so will probably eliminate it. I don't recall a charcoal canister on my 77 though.

If I remember corectly, this was a system with five hoses going to that metal tube. one hose was from each corner of the gas tank to allow venting at any angle, and the fifth hose was the vent. But I could very well be wrong. The old Dodge B vans website had a really good discussion of this system with pictures and factory diagrams. I wish I could find it again.

Frscke1 - No it’s not vented in the van as that “Tube” is sealed.

Reed - that is correct about the four corners (from my research) but if I am not mistaken there were only 4 lines coming out of the tank (I’ll have to look again). If I want to swap motors and fuel tank and lines I will eliminate this tube but do I “have” to install a charcoal canister (I don’t recall one on my 77) and my 77 certainly doesn’t have the system that is on my 72

The charcoal canister is a great odea that saves you money and protects the environment while have absolutely ZERO negative impact on the performance or economy of your engine. All it does is capture gas vapors that otherwise would evaporate out into the atmosphere. This costs you money and makes it harder to start your van. There is no good reason NOT to add a charcoal canister to a carbureted vehicle that will be a regularly driven vehicle.
