I have been fixing up a 77 B200 Street Van (no cool paint, has some junk RV windows, but the carpet is original and it's a YH3 code van.) My throttle linkage isn't fully engaging, and I tracked the issue down to the bushing where the rod enters the engine compartment, right behind the doghouse. I'm having a hell of a time finding the part and was wondering if anyone had any spares/info on where to find one/tips. I can only get the damn thing to open the butterflies about 60% and it's driving me bonkers, as this van also gets dailied. | | | Re: 1977 Dodge B200 Doghouse Bushing | Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 18,535 Likes: 135 Supreme Master | Supreme Master Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 18,535 Likes: 135 | Welcome from Florida.
I had the same issue with my 85 Dodge. I had to fabricate myself a new linkage. IS this part of what you fabbed? MY buddy's 79 Trans-Van has a completely different setup from this. | | | Re: 1977 Dodge B200 Doghouse Bushing | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 12,107 Likes: 37 Maniac | Maniac Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 12,107 Likes: 37 | 77 and 79 have different throttle linkage setups. Mid Dodge vs. Late dodge.
Windows- they're what make a van worth owning! | | | Re: 1977 Dodge B200 Doghouse Bushing | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 2,964 Likes: 63 veteran | veteran Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 2,964 Likes: 63 | The northwest region of the US where you are located seems to still have a lot of the older vans on the roads. I would suggest checking out some salvage yards to see if you can find a replacement. Have you tried taking the connection apart and cleaning and lubricating. | | | Re: 1977 Dodge B200 Doghouse Bushing | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 2,964 Likes: 63 veteran | veteran Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 2,964 Likes: 63 | 6030980 is the part number for the spacer or bushing on the pedal. I would also check further back near the carburetor where the spring return is and a couple ball joints on the linkage to make sure the spring is not worn out or the linkage is hanging up. | | | Re: 1977 Dodge B200 Doghouse Bushing | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 4,463 Likes: 12 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 4,463 Likes: 12 | If the butterflies are only opening part way, first off I'd look at the linkage clamp on the accelerator pedal shaft, (shown in your picture) in case it's slipped into the wrong position when your accelerator pedall is floored, then I'd scrutinize the threaded rod end in the linkage. You can adjust the length of the throttle rod quite a bit by turning that rod end.
I've seen the accelerator pedal bushing get really sloppy, but still work pretty well; the main issues I've seen with worn ones are a lack of repeatably returning to low idle. Something bigger is going on if the butterflies are only opening 60%. Perhaps the linkage is even bent.
The butterflies should range from fully closed to wide open when the rod end and pedal shaft clamp are adjusted properly. They can do it even with a fair amount of slop in the shaft bushing. A heavier spring can help with settling to idle in the case of wear.
If the linkage has been screwed up/with, (you might get lucky and see what fresh threads on the rod have been exposed since it was first set up at the factory... ) you may benefit from going over the entire suite of carb adjustments and the super important throttle kick down adjustment (on the transmission). It's guaranteed to not be correct if you're not able to open the carb properly. Your van may behave very differently in short order!

I mitigated this for now by removing a washer and pushing the shaft in about a quarter inch, but the thing was totally out of whack. I've got my carb opening MOSTLY all the way now, just holding out for a local yard to finally process a B300 midvan that's been sitting for a bit. Unfortunately, since this happened, the transmission has more or less failed (undiagnosed/neglected issue caused the output shaft to screw up the housing, also having some slippage) so item #1 is getting a new transmission put in since the old one has enough roblems that I don't feel it's worth it to tackle them individually. | | | Re: 1977 Dodge B200 Doghouse Bushing | Joined: Apr 2020 Posts: 1 stranger | stranger Joined: Apr 2020 Posts: 1 | Hey Gordi -- We just found your post. We have a salvage yard in Eastern Colorado, and there are FIVE 1st generation B-vans in the yard. I'm pretty sure we can help. simlasalvage@msn.com | | |
