Haven't spend more than $50 on the van this summer since reading this first post. I have been saving my pennies and dimes. I have been looking for a LS donor so I can do this. Is there a certain year and above that a person should look for when doing this? 2005 and above?
Since being in Iowa, AC is going to be a must! | | | Re: 84 G20 LS Swap Project | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 1,015 Likes: 19 old hand | old hand Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 1,015 Likes: 19 | There is a guy on FB (Chad Higgs) doing an LS swap in his and he says that he used the "mini a/c compressor kit from Dirty Dingo", and it fit just fine. I have not heard of the Dirty Dingo Mini A/C | | | Re: 84 G20 LS Swap Project | Joined: Feb 2018 Posts: 224 Likes: 19 enthusiast | enthusiast Joined: Feb 2018 Posts: 224 Likes: 19 | Funny that you post that, I was on DirtyDingo website looking at that conversion / AC compressor!
Yes, it's a really nice website.
Since I don't know, I am going to ask the question.
Would / could I still use the new compressor (Dirty Dingo) and be able to run the rear AC?
Sure wish Santa was at the MALL today. I know if I sat on his lap what I would ask for!!! (I'm sure he ask me to get the h<ll off him too) | | | Re: 84 G20 LS Swap Project | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 9,855 Likes: 234 carpal tunnel | carpal tunnel Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 9,855 Likes: 234 | Don't wanna hi-jack here but:
I would suggest more research. Here's what I found: The SD7B10 Mini (in the kit) is a 100 cc (that's kinda small capacity wise) and is not an OEM piece. Some vehicles, such as the early 90's Dodge pick-ups and some Jeeps, use an 09 (90cc).
The late model Chevy vans that do list a Sanden SD replacement use a SD7H15 which is a 155cc compressor.
Like I said, more research would be required. I've done a lot of repair back-in-the-day but I know nothing about design. Vehicle AC design is a moving target. Vehicle speed, comp speed, air temps (in and out) fan speeds even vehicle color (thermal load) can influence capacity. Most are over sized most of the time and utilize accumulators or liquid receivers to handle the excess refrigerant during low load conditions. I would call Sanden customer service or maybe a distributor such as Vintage Air. | | | Re: 84 G20 LS Swap Project | Joined: Feb 2018 Posts: 224 Likes: 19 enthusiast | enthusiast Joined: Feb 2018 Posts: 224 Likes: 19 | Thank you Catfish!
All is very good information....
Santa hasn't visited yet, so I have time to do a little research....

I used the DD motor mounts and was impressed by the quality.

I finally did a longer roadtrip in the van and I'm thrilled with the results. She cruises wonderfully at 70mph with plenty of passing power. However these vans weren't meant to go that fast and it gets pretty rattly in the back over 75mph or so. 70mph cruising is fine! I still haven't hooked up cruise control and I certainly miss that.
But.....but....18.6MPG on this trip. Mostly 70mph with a couple passes to 80mph. Easily a 5mpg increase on top of the doubled horsepower, easier starts, better sound, etc. I love this van!
