I have mentioned this van a few times in my posts, since it is several hours away from my location i have not had a chance to get pics of it. However the friend i bought it from got a couple for me last time he was down at his property.

As you guys can see it is a little rough, Hopefully in the near future i may finally get it home to start work. Meanwhile i can at least give a bit more info as to the specs and build plan.

Specs:

1980 Chevy G20
90,xxx kms (not sure of exact kms atm)
400 sbc/Th350 transmission (Trans has less then 30 thou km on it)
Factory curtis conversion van with full camper equipment.

Build plan:

Strip out camper parts as the layout for the bed will not work for my application. Will probably save the parts to build a teardrop type trailer later on.
Build a platform bed in the back of the van and possibly either redo the front seats in cloth or replace them with cloth seats from another GM vehicle.

Now from what i understand the G vans used the same suspension as the C10/20 pickup of the same years. So with that said is it safe to assume that at the very least i could use front lowering springs or spindles from a same year C10 to lower it a bit?

Def looking forward to starting on it. I may have another G van to go with it soon as well. Landlord has a later model G2500 sitting at my place that i may be able to snag for about $400. It has a TBI 305 and 4 speed OD trans. Depending on its condition it may get used for parts for this or become a separate build of its own.

I spoke too soon on scrapping the van, Will be building it after all and continue searching for a drivetrain for the '69 C10 project.

Well i may as well list off the ideas for this van now that i am keeping it after all.

Basically as stated above i will probably mostly gut it out to change the lay out. However i will keep the booth intact to serve as a secondary bed and seating area while camping.

Will end up building a bed across the back as originally planned and just build it into the booth as well.

Debating between replacing the rear most windows on each end of the bed with steel by welding new panels in place of the glass. Other option being limo tinting the rear windows and putting plywood over the windows inside to achieve the same effect. I plan on hanging a small LCD tv at the foot end of the bed.

You could just make some reflectix pads or something to block the windows when you don't want eyes peeking in. Glad you're keeping it, it's a pretty cool ride man.

Hmm that is a good idea! Especially if i combine it with Limo tint windows from the B pillars back and 18% tint on my doors. That will keep it nice and dark. Just a matter of adding snaps to the rear window frames and having curtains made. As it is i may try to have a partition wall between the bed and the booth which will allow for me to mount speakers overhead and build a framework in the raised roof section for the tv.

I have a set of 15x8 Turbine style wheels as that i got with my '84 C10 that i may end up using on this van after getting them refinished. As some of the campgrounds i would be possibly using it on have gravel roads going to them i will most likely keep it stock tire size and run a more all terrain design tire on them. Other option is running the wagon wheels i have on the C10 on it and run the vans Rallys on it.
