I have asked a few times, but I figured it may get more exposure if I start its own thread. I would be interested in seeing how the companies that did the 4x4 conversion did the job. I am thinking about doing a conversion and have fabrication and machine equipment. I would rather start with a rough idea from pictures of the parts others have used.

I would start by buying a kit from boulder offroad center ,around 3k for the goodies. then I would try and find a 73-87 chevy 3/4 or 1 ton pickup.it has all the proper parts with the proper dimensions that you can bolt right in ! the only thing your gonna have to get is a transfercase mount,if you find a pickup you can modify that one.longer brake hoses and driveshafts will round out the pckage.so,around 6-8k if you can weld.

I can weld, have access to CNC equipment if needed. I did a straight axle conversion on a Toyota pickup (cut out the ifs and attach leafs and axle) it cost me about $800 for the needed parts and materials. Even after the labor bill it was still no where near 8k for the customer. The most help was having one that was completed that I could see what was done and make similar parts myself. I could have paid more for a "kit" but it works fine and the customer is happy. No reason a van conversion can not be done on a budget. So if someone does have actual pictures, it would help. If not I can make do.

I have posted a few pix on my build thread here. It is still in the new members section. The donor wreck was done by pathfinder equipment company in 79.

85 Chevy SWB G20 292 w/ 3 on the tree (had it in high school)
78 Chevy SWB G30 350 700r4 Pathfinder 4x4 conversion (wrecked in 08)
92 Chevy EWB G30 350 4l80e (bought with 587k miles for the body. Getting transplants from wrecked 78. Then big block)
Various minis over the years.

They did use custom front springs to get the wheels to center up. Pretty short. This is the picture before I cut the old 78 "frame" out and chopped off the front third. Chevy changed the front part somewhere between 78 and 92.

I have seen a few 4x4 vans with the leaf springs attaching under an extended bumper. Those are probably DIY from that info.
