One thing that’s always bothered me about the “paint job” on this van is that they just hit the outside. So all door jams, gaps and anything else that wasn’t exposed, didn’t or barely got paint. You could always see bits of cream almost everywhere. Slowly chipping away at painting all those hidden parts and since I’m doing the grill swap, figured take it all apart and get after it. Lots prep but finally making headway on all these overlapping projects that comprise of the front end work.

Painting the underside of the hood and will repaint the top of the hood tomorrow.

I did a mock up of the grill yesterday, very stoked to get it finished! More pics soon

Nice, I know the feeling of seeing jambs that need paint. It is coming along really well.

Thanks! One of these days, I’m going to have my windshield guy come replace the windshield seal and I’ll get to paint more stuff they missed.

Hey man thanks. I appreciate that you took the time to read all my ramblings. This van has been fun to work on, still have a big list of things to tackle.

Finished up this early grill swap, it now matches the front bumper style which I prefer over the 86+.

A few images of the process...

Grill was originally kinda rough.

Cleaned and painted it up and really shined up well. 0000 fine steel wool did amazingly well on chromed plastic.

My lady is a talented painter so I enlisted some small trim painting help

I repainted the hood, cowl and lower Valance while it was all apart. They were all pretty chipped and beat up.

After! So stoked on this. Custom cut light smoke acrylic lens covers finishes the look.
