A group came last night and helped with a variety of odds and ends mostly little things that will eventually be hidden later on.. Got wiring ran from the main electrical panel up to the front for the underglow, fan override switch, and others. Also got the wiring on the right side pulled through the floor and safely inside. Painted all the plastic trims for the Toyota front seats: Got the jack storage finalized in the left rear corner. I need to find a place for the lug wrench, but I may just clip that to the side.. We'll see; We got the buss bar panel made which is located on the right side in front of the rear wheel well. These will be redundant buss bars from the left side to run switched accessories and whatnot. There is also a large power stud for the deep cycle batteries to connect to. Lastly, I made mounts for the rear speaker pods. These are marine pods like would go on a ski boat. The brackets will be mostly hidden behind the wall panels once they are installed so they didn't have to be pretty. Just solid. I will probably be inside tonight helping to fit the new skins to the front seats. They are turning out great so far! Lots more to come soon! This is entered in a show that we will be leaving for on 5/30 so hopefully we can get everything done. | | | Re: Tuner4life's 1985 Chevy G20 4 Speed Build Thread | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 1,015 Likes: 19 old hand | OP old hand Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 1,015 Likes: 19 | | | | Re: Tuner4life's 1985 Chevy G20 4 Speed Build Thread | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 1,015 Likes: 19 old hand | OP old hand Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 1,015 Likes: 19 | Also, I found this cool little trick I am so excited about! I wanted to find a way to leave the barn doors open if we are at a show or something, but not have the dome lights run the battery down. I happened to have a spare door jamb switch from a Saab 9000 laying around the shop, and I remembered that these switches have a cool feature. If you push the pin in 3/4 of the way in and twist it to the right, it will stay put and the dome lights will be off, it will self-reset the next time the door is closed. I was hoping that the measurements would be close enough to work for my application in the van, and sure enough it does! And fits amazingly well! All you need to do to make this fit is drill the existing hole at the top of the right B-pillar out to 9/16, and add a small hole underneath for the mounting screw. It fits well and almost looks factory. I figured I might need a shim or something on the door to reach the switch, but it reaches exactly the correct length already. No shims or spacers needed. I love it when a plan comes together!

Curious not sure if theres a major difference in wiring, but mine has switch on the dash to the right of the steering column to shut off the interior lights. I assume you're van isnt equipped with it, regardless this is a much easier way than having to remember to turn a switch on and off all the time. | | | Re: Tuner4life's 1985 Chevy G20 4 Speed Build Thread | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 1,015 Likes: 19 old hand | OP old hand Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 1,015 Likes: 19 | Strange.. My van only had dome light switches on the front 2 doors originally no way to turn them off... This new switch is just 2 wires and (while I haven't actually done it yet) should be able to patch right into the existing wire under the dash.. | | | Re: Tuner4life's 1985 Chevy G20 4 Speed Build Thread | Joined: Mar 2019 Posts: 130 Likes: 3 member | member Joined: Mar 2019 Posts: 130 Likes: 3 | I'll snap a pic of it tonight when i hit the garage trying to button up my one s10 before i tear into the van, but i already sorta started with removing the fuel tank and such. I'm thinking because mines a passenger van not a cargo it was added. | | | Re: Tuner4life's 1985 Chevy G20 4 Speed Build Thread | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 1,389 old hand | old hand Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 1,389 | WOW!!!! Thanks Scott! I'm hoping I can collect a few trophies over the years! We'll see! Last night, we got the main wiring harness going to the overhead console finished up and I installed it over the headliner and down the wall behind the driver's door. Lots more wiring to do, but that was a big chunk! Then I went inside and helped the wife install the finished seat skins on the bottom cushions. It was a pain and took most of the evening, but I was amazed at how good they look! She is still working on the seat backs, but they are much simpler than the bottoms. They should be done soon! I can't freakin wait! It's crunch time now - 1 week left! Lots to do and finish before we leave for Gridlife Midwest next Thursday! | | |
