Anybody ever use one of these markers to paint the faded white lettering on your tires. Also, any recommendation on a brand to buy. Ebay sells quite a few different brands of them. I searched my local auto parts stores today and nobody sells them.
yes! this with a STIFF Brush (Brass Tire brush if needed!) will do wonders.
I tried to paint the black letters on my new tires white... I scrubbed them with a wire brush and westleys, then a wire brush with blue dawn prior to painting the letters with an oil based paint marker. I let them dry for a few days. Man, it looked awesome....until the first time I cleaned them...paint started coming off immediately.
These tires are only 2 years old, and I can't get the black off of the white letters, no matter how many times I have tried. I started a thread a couple years ago about cleaning them. I have tried Westely's, Simple Green, Super-Clean, Comet, and several other cleaners, all scrubbing with a stiff bristle brush. It seems like the oil just keeps bleeding to the top of the white lettering. I bought 4 Cooper Cobra's at the time, two of the tires the lettering is nice and white, the other two just won't clean up. I remember guys using the white paint and markers in the 1970s and 80s on their muscle cars and never heard much good about the products. I thought with today's technologies, they may have made something better that would stick or stay on.
