I see a number of options for automotive fire extinguishers.. Was looking at the small white Kidde brand dry extinguishers that you can grab from about anywhere.

I was wondering if there are better options that won't break the bank. I would like to have 2. 1 at the back somewhere, and 1 under the driver's seat. I have never worried about this before, but since we will be camping in this thing on occasion, I figure it wouldn't hurt.

What do you all like? Or does it not really matter?

cheers

I have one or two under the bed in the back of my van. Just be sure to get the right class of extinguisher.

https://www.femalifesafety.org/types-of-extinguishers.html

Class A fires are fires in ordinary combustibles such as wood, paper, cloth, rubber, and many plastics.

Class B fires are fires in flammable liquids such as gasoline, petroleum greases, tars, oils, oil-based paints, solvents, alcohols. Class B fires also include flammable gases such as propane and butane. Class B fires do not include fires involving cooking oils and grease.

Class C fires are fires involving energized electical equipment such as computers, servers, motors, transformers, and appliances. Remove the power and the Class C fire becomes one of the other classes of fire.

Class D fires are fires in combustible metals such as magnesium, titanium, zirconium, sodium, lithium, and potassium.

Class K fires are fires in cooking oils and greases such as animal and vegetable fats.

Most vans will see class A and B fires. However, depending on he equipment in your van and how you use it, you might have a C, D, or K class fire.

Make sure whatever extinguisher(s) you get is appropriate for the class of fires that may break out in your van or site.

With your Precious cargo Sir, Be Prepared!

For Truckers, US DOT says it matters. grin

3 on the Cabin Cruiser, 1 inside the side door, 1 in the kitchen, and a BIG RED one mounted on the back bumper. I carry a small suitcase stuffed with first aid kit too. Alcohol/Hydrogen Peroxide. Knee pad. To kneel on while administering First Aid/CPR. You will get one after the first time. When the minutes seem like hours...

I would also highly recommend that you take a First Aid CPR class. The fun classes are with Teachers, lotsa Teachers, they are getting re-certified all the time. I wuz one. shocked
Accidents happen fast, and the training will kick in, making it way easier to quickly respond when you have to.

Accidents can be prevented, but once on scene you may be the only person there who is able to administer the "Pound of Cure."

Go Team Turner! cheers

I have two in my van one in front within reach while driving and one in the back near the side door. They are generic "car fire extinguishers" off of amazon and were somewhere around $15-20 each. Figured they would come in handy someday. I'm hoping not but lets be real, no one would be surprised if an old dodge caught fire.

You guys need to get out of the dark ages, technology has changed, smile

I've been putting these in all my vehicles and if ever needed they don't make a mess plus they don't expire

https://elementfire.com

Being the size of a flare is great and they work way better than any of the old extinguishers

only down side is that they cost more but being so small they can fit anywhere

Those look pretty good but this may sound weird. I kind of like the look of the fire extinguisher on the wall. Simple and if anyone around me like friends or girlfriends has to need it they know how and can grab it quick.

Just being honest...
When I watched the video of the element device, I almost busted out laughing that he had to light it. LOL

Looks cool, but I would be worried about mistaking it for a flare or, worse, mistaking a flare for the extinguisher, in a panicked emergency. The old style fire extinguisher is easily recognizeable.

I'm not loving how close he has to get to the fire to use that. I want something with a little range.

I carry one in the Trans Am (a requirement at some shows), but need to get one for the van.
