Hey all,

My rear diff is shot and I want to take this opportunity to upgrade my rear axle to a locking differential. I have a 1990 Chevy g20 that has been converted to an RV by Chinook. I'm guessing I need at leas a 3/4 ton axle... Any suggestions on axles that will work with my transmission?

If you swap to the eight lug axles and suspension, your in for a lot of work.If the axle has lasted this long your probably good with doing a standard rebuild with new parts. The diff is common you can get a few new differential and all the gears, bearing etc at Summit racing.

Why do you need a locker in an RV?

Anything other than rebuilding what you have now, or finding a used one to bolt in with same or different gearing, will be much more than a simple upgrade.

I have a G20 RV as well. The right 14 bolt will fit but hard to find in a 3.40. It’s not the transmission that will matter but where the shock mounts are on the axle and how far the spring perches are apart on that specific axle. Is yours primarily towing something heavy? Off roading? Hard to say if you’d need a locker....
