Was under my beast the other day and noticed the driveshaft just aft of the center support bearing has about 2 inches of splines showing. Just had the engine & tranny ( can I safely say tranny on here?) replaced but couldn't say for sure if it was like that prior to. I suspect it's normal for a 2 piece driveshaft, but it sure looks odd..... Thoughts from those with experience, please.

No its not normal ... did they replace the motor/tranny with the same length motor/tranny ? bet not .. there is some play length wise for when the body floats ... like when you go over a hill the spline slides in N out. but there is only so much spline ... if you see 2" thats half of it.

My '92 G30 EXT ...an inch or less stickin out passed the carrier bearing ...

Thanks! I'll get back underneath and recheck, but I'm fairly certain everything was the same going back in.

Either way I would get the rear drive shaft lengthened by an inch or so to put more of the spline back in the receiver ..... something changed different rear end ?

Only powertrain things I've done to it since I bought it are the engine and trans. Engine's a basic 350; it was a replacement long block. The trans, now that I think about it, was removed, rebuilt and reinstalled. I'm fairly certain it's the same unit that came out. I'll crawl under and measure the exposed splines. Not having much luck finding an acceptable dimension in any of the books I have.

You know you made me look, mine is the same. I'm 89 g30 th400, Spicer drive shaft, Dana 70. Maybe a difference between Dana and the 14 bolt? Will try to post pick later.

Things look like they've been this way a while based on the crud pattern on the belly. I'll do some prodding at a couple shops here in town, see what the thoughts are. I'm curious....
