That is not normal at all. The good news is that you should be able to disasemble, clean, and lubricate them to work properly. Heck, just spraying them with some WD-40 or Knock 'Er Loose might do the trick.

If lube doesn't get it done, it may need new springs too.

The rotor shaft sticks inside the dizzy, it happens. If your up to it, pull the dizzy and take it apart, there's a roll pin at the bottom holding the gear on. You can try without removing the dizzy if you loosen the pick up, pull it up and you will see a felt washer, pull it up and lube it working the shaft back and forth a little till it frees up. Be careful with the pick up wires, they are frail and don't get the lube on the pick up. it is actually regular maintenance to lube it every so many tune ups. The space under the felt is a lube well for it.

Try and get identical springs. Don't just throw any old springs on there. THose springs play a very large rolein your timing advance curve and putting in different springs will change your timing advance. If you don't know how to fine tune your advance curve, try clenaing everything and relubing before you replace the springs.

Ours were like that until we cleaned them up and lubed everything. Check it out here.... http://nikothenomad.blogspot.com/2015/03/the-healing-of-annie.html

now I could spin the shaft in my hand and they fly out smooth and easy as expected.
