Hi all,

Probably a noob question but... If I leave my cell phone on top of the dog house, the engine cover of our 1985 Dodge B350, is it possible that it can interfere with the engine? While it is a carb´d engine, mechanical fuel pump, there are a few electrical components that I am worried about of being too close to the cell phone. (Distributor, etc.)

Any one who knows about? Or anyone who leaves the phone there and no problem happened?

Never heard of that happening. Never had anything like that with our vans.
I would seriously doubt any interference from the cell phone. The foil insulation inside the doghouse acts like a Faraday Cage in that regard.

Thanks CatFish,

That's what I was thinking.

With all those new and more powerfull cell phones and their 5G etc, I was just never comfortable putting there my phone, or mine and my wife's at the same time...

But yeah, never heard of anyone either. Just that I had a out of timing issue and the timing had to be reset. I tracked that one down though to have happened due to a distributor change, and eveeytime the distributor gets messed with the timer should be adjusted/resetted. (At least per the manual.)

Those old phones could also be used to microwave LOL
But am wondering if,for instance, keeping the phone on the dog house, if it will actually mess with the sparks, signals, etc., so that it creates misfires, out of timing issues and such, on both: temporary or lasting (in case of out of timing issues).
Tried to google it, but could only find vague answers to this questions. (And I tried to google it in all my three languages, English, German and Spanish, but with same results. Maybe because there isn´t much about it?!)

My TV remote sets off the stair-lift I have in the house. And my garage door opener sometimes interferes with the home security system. Can't answer your question, but goofy things can happen with stuff is transmitting.

We have some electronic toys we keep for the grandchildren when they visit. Sometimes those will spontaneously start talking or playing music. I believe it has to do with humidity and the amount of static. Tesla was right after all I guess.
It'll sure raise the hair on the back of your neck when one of those cute little baby dolls goes all "Chucky" in the middle on the night..... eek

TRUE THAT, ALL IS FREQUENCY, AND JUST ABOUT EVERYWHERE!!!
Just wondering if the vehicle electronics are made to accept interference, the same way as radios, toys, etc., are as per the FCC? I can´t imagine a distributor or ignition system be made to accept interference.
Maybe I am just overthinking it.

But yes, hearing a toy move by itself in the middle of the night is creepy cry
