I discovered today I have a mild leak in the speed sensor. See enclosed photo.

I'm in the middle of nowhere and the mechanic in this remote village tells me he needs to take it apart to fix the leak
or replace it. I'm not sure he knows what he's doing so I told him to let it be for the time being. If any of you guys know
if it will be necessary to replace it in order to fix the leak, or where I can order it, I'd appreciate it.

I think it's not the sensor but the part the sensor is attached to that is leaking. What is the name of it?

I dont know what that is but you will still have brakes without the speed censors ..... wait till you get back N go to your mech to fix it.... Did the Brake light come on ? Or the ABS light ....

Speed censors are on the hub N it counts the rotation of the hub. Its all electronic how can it leak.

Unless some thing leaked into it N shorted it out.

Dude, New one on me, too. See the O-ring? Look up 4L60 images. It looks like the Reluctor gear is in the case, and the sensor probe resides in the center once installed.

Looks like there are external wheel speed sensors in the newer GM vehicles...

As far as what the Mechanic sez, IDK, but it looks like to R&R the sensor alone wouldn't be going in deep.

Disclaimer:
A used Tilesetter's probably notchyer best source for Mechanicing information... cheers

Ok. Just figured it out. My G20 had the O-ring replaced about 5 years ago because it was leaking trans fluid. It was cheap to fix. took care of the leak and hasn't been a problem since.
