And I'd much rather hear what my baby has to say. Built a small box where the stereo used to be. Keep sunglasses, loose change, etc. Use the extra money to buy fuel..... Depends on the time of the month .... some time the volume control on a stereo is necessary ....

KInda getting back to the original topic: No current stereo but I still remember my first one. A Kraco eight track I hung under the dash and two little wedge speakers on the back shelf. It was the spring of 1968, I was 16 at the time and after installing it I drove over to Penny's house to take her for a ride and listen to some CCR. We're still riding .....

Heard there wuz a Rukus over here, so glad I came on over. Saw the word Kraco, LMAO!! Catfish thanks for the Belly laugh this morning. I had a swap meet Kraco 8 track too! It hung under the dash of the $250 '65 Impala. Then an upgrade in the 1972 VW Squareback sedan to a Realistic cassette tape deck from Radio Shack. Little Billy would be bouncing around, listening to the Eagles, singing along to Hotel California, belting out, "Such an Ugly Face, Such an Ugly Face!" "Now Billy..." He really liked The Six Dollar Man too! | | | Re: Tell us about your stereo | Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 186 member | member Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 186 | I put my first stereo in my new 1975 Chevy Van G20. I was using the stock AM Radio that came with it, the stock dash speaker that was installed in the middle of the dash from the factory. I used this for the first two years. Then I started my interior finish with carpet everywhere and a bed in the back. I added a partition between the bed and the sliding door and installed 6x9 speakers on each side facing the front and a cassette player behind the drivers seat that could be adjusted from the drivers seat. The first album I played was Lyin eyes by the Eagles in stereo and it was an awesome experience to hear that while driving down the highway. | | | Re: Tell us about your stereo | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,308 Likes: 568 | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,308 Likes: 568 | Both of my vans got the same thing .... head unit 8 speakers N a 700 watt amp

I have been told by some folks I may need to replace the original belt... even though it has never been used, because of Dry rot? Any opinions on that?? I can get the belt but should it really be cooked due to age? It was wrapped sealed etc... | | | Re: Tell us about your stereo | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 514 Likes: 55 addict | addict Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 514 Likes: 55 | I truly miss the equipment from the 90's to early 2000's, now I am at a loss trying to find stuff. It's just not the same or I can't find it. Gen X was blessed for a moment when the market was wild with support. Remotes controls, cheap class D amps and such where becoming the norm. My current state in the Beau sucks all stock with a old xplode head unit. In the brown vans day I had 2 Xplode 15" subs in a sealed box I built to the spec sheet, ran mono with a 1200 watt amp, 2 Pioneer 4way 6x9's driven on a 600w amp, 2 3x5 polk plates in the dash driven from the head unit, and two polk silk dome tweeters, all filtered by a crossover. I hope the market see's the demand for Gen X as we are just starting to have 2 nickles to rub together. | | | Re: Tell us about your stereo | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 9,854 Likes: 8 Festerus Vannimus | OP Festerus Vannimus Joined: May 2007 Posts: 9,854 Likes: 8 | I just purchased a 80's NOS Pioneer TP-7004 8 track AM/FM stereo. As a former car stereo shop owner, I would recommend replacing the belt BEFORE you install the stereo, keep you from having to pull the stereo later on (next week, month or year) to replace it when it does break. Those belts only had a 1-2 year life expectancy when used daily, so it could very well be weak or even dead by now.....r it could still be perfect, but why risk it ruining a weekend road trip over a $2.00 belt (guessing at price).
