Doesn't look like the Astro section gets much activity but I'll still ask. Anyone have experience with this kit? I originally wanted to convert my G20 to 4x4. However, there's a lot of work required and my corrosion issues may make it dead from the start. I was looking to buy another G20 but the 4x4 conversion is still major and probably not wise for me to try. I've considered just a 4x4 truck but i really like the comfort and convenience of a van.

The journeys conversion kit which gives an AWD 4Hi and 4Lo seems to be pretty simple and not require major tools which is perfect for me. Any downsides to this kit? I don't need the AWD but I want to go off road on guided trips (nothing crazy) and do beach driving which requires 4x4.

I haven't used that kit. But my mom had both a 2WD and AWD Astro when I was a kid through late teenager. The AWD always got 2-4mpg less than the 2WD. So to me being able to turn that on and off would be a nice bonus just from that front. So take that aspect and couple it with a true 4lo option? I'd say go for it!

Yes, the early AWDs were full-time, 60/40 split. The laters were active...could adjust the split, but still always engaged I believe. A true disconnect would be nice.

I like the Astros and the AWD is very cool, the Hi Lo, plus Full time lockout mods sound great! Will it work on a Full Size?

I do know Arne Toman, (AMS) likes these Vans, his went a wee bit quicker than a 16.7 in the Quarter mile too!

I haven't installed the journeys kit in my Astro but I am piecing together a NP236 swap for it. I want to keep the AWD and have 4lo. From what I've read about the journeys kit its quick and easy to install its just you can do some research and source the parts yourself for less money. The Astro's front axle doesn't have a disconnect. you'll have to swap in a S10 front axle to get a true 2HI.
