Mine are toast. I haven't been able to locate any usable ones at the local junkyards and may need to scour the interwebs for either OEM or a suitable aftermarket set.
Or - if anyone happens to have a set laying around, I'll buy them! | | | Re: 1978 Chevy climate control cables | Joined: Dec 2017 Posts: 494 Likes: 21 addict | OP addict Joined: Dec 2017 Posts: 494 Likes: 21 | | | | Re: 1978 Chevy climate control cables | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 2,027 Likes: 51 veteran | veteran Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 2,027 Likes: 51 | You might be able to replace them with bicycle brake cables. You can buy spools of the outer and inner cable to any length.

I guess I'll keep scouring the junkyards. | | | Re: 1978 Chevy climate control cables | Joined: Jul 2014 Posts: 4,805 Likes: 123 Uncle Rust N Dents | Uncle Rust N Dents Joined: Jul 2014 Posts: 4,805 Likes: 123 | I never had to replace any cables, but I did have to replace the vacuum switch. I know that doesn't help, but at least you know we heard you. | | | Re: 1978 Chevy climate control cables | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 2,964 Likes: 63 veteran | veteran Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 2,964 Likes: 63 | I see your in California, surely there is some old stuff still setting in the salvage yards. I wonder if the truck and Blazer years would fit. I had them cables on my 79 and 89 Blazers and never had a problem with them, one trick is to keep the old cables like that lubricated, so they don't freeze up. | | | Re: 1978 Chevy climate control cables | Joined: Dec 2017 Posts: 494 Likes: 21 addict | OP addict Joined: Dec 2017 Posts: 494 Likes: 21 | I've found a few sets at PYP...but they've all been seized up just as bad as mine. I'm going to try soaking mine in oil to see if I can free them up a bit but I'm not very hopeful that will do the trick. | | | Re: 1978 Chevy climate control cables | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 2,027 Likes: 51 veteran | veteran Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 2,027 Likes: 51 | Use a funnel sealed to the end of the cable with electrical shrink tube and leave it hanging a few days full with penetrating oil.
