OK Vanners...I'm looking for examples of a particular pattern of old school flames. I don't know what they are called, and can't find any pics on the Google. The type I remember has sort of overlapping crescent shaped licks. Not at all realistic, very stylized. Usually done in candy, metalflake, or pearls. Sometimes ghosty. I don't know if this style has a name or came from a certain artist, but I need to see some samples for an upcoming project. Thanks in advance.

How old school are you talking? 50s? 60s? or like the 90s when stuff started going tribal?

Are you sure they're flames? Maybe scallops or something?

I 'think" I might know what you are thinking of Tat2ace. They were my favorite, and what I sketched on my school notebooks as a kid.

And l am shocked that., like you, I cannot get an internet search to produce anything. It's crazy.

These have some of the elements of what I used to sketch/recall/see, but none are exact.

Kind of like this, though not so snake-like in their long slender tips. Also not a fan of the multi-colors, but again, much of this is personal taste.
PINTEREST FLAMES

Sort of like this, but much more 2D and outline from back in the day.
Fine Art America

This is getting pretty close to what I used to draw, but lacks the overlapping of the flame tips like I liked.
Colourbox

Lastly, this might be fun to play with.

I remember seeing them when I was a kid in the 70's. Maybe they are 60's-70's. They are definitely flames.
None of these posted are it. I will sketch something up to inspire the process and post it.

Cool. I can't wait to see what they look like.
You had me looking at flames all over the place trying to see what I could come up with.
It was fun.
