So after having no over drive or first and some trouble shooting we'd replaced the shift solenoids in our 95 g20. It shifted fine on the test drive then parked it now back to manual 2nd and just drive for forward gears. Are these vans known to have ignition switch problems like the pickups of the same era? It just seems odd it worked for the test-drive but then took a drive later a the same issue came back.

Pull the governor, check for free play, stripped plastic gears? No forth gear? if you used silicone and it cured with the gasket upside down, it covers a port in the pan rail and you get no 4 Th on 700r4. 4l60e gasket looks the same, same problem?

No we used a regular pan gasket, I try not to use silicone unless I really have to. It's just confusing to me it shifted like it should on the test drive, then later the same day had to jump it(cheap battery), so now i am wondering if the vans have the same ingnition switch issues as the trucks or if maybe my weak/bad battery could be the culprit?

I see your point with the power problem, I'm not driving my 89 because it suddenly cuts out and and goes randomly. The electric is just beat, it's bad. Going to change everything. I just blew the tranny in my jalopy and stole a 700r4 from the brown van. It gave me problems, slipped and shifted bad. I took a chance and got a kit from trans go. Works perfect. I don't know what you want to spend but your in the 200 $ range in parts. If you have good power and the drive train module is good, this may be the way to go. Ohh what I ment about the gasket is if it was installed upside down it covers a hole in the pan rail and you get no 4TH, very easy to screw up, there's a notch in the gasket to clear the hole.
