Hi Everyone,
New member here and look forward to spending a good chunk of my time reading through this forum. My wife and I are in the process of looking at vans so we can go from Chicago to Grand Canyon/Yosemite/Yellowstone on some long road trips. We have found a 1990 Ford E150 with a 302 and 132k miles for 4000. A 1997 GMC Savana with 140k miles for 4000, and a 1993 GMC Vandura 2500 with 100k for 4500. Being new to vans, I am not sure which of these to choose, so that is where the reading begins. I will not have much money to dump into the van in the first year or two, so hoping to choose wisely. Thanks and look forward to all the advice

Welcome to the site pete ... well the GMC is 7 yrs newer, but the Vandura is a nice platform to work from.

Welcome! One thing you will discover fast is...everybody will have their own opinion on Ford, Chevy or Dodge products. Being from Chicago, I will recommend that whatever you are looking at, go over it with a fine tooth comb looking for rusted/rusting frame and body parts.

Why is it that when I press 1 for English, I still can not understand the person on the other end????

Would you avoid the 1990 E150? All these vans are rust free, very clean inside, with the vandura being the only one that is faded but it is a one owner. The E150 paint is excellent and a 3 owner, and the 1997 savana is probably the best condition visually and a 1 owner.

I will have to drive these home anywhere from 600-1400 miles depending on which i decide upon. All are rust free, 2 being original owner and one being a 3rd owner but all in the same family.

Update: I was planning on flying on friday to see the 1997 GMC as it was very nice and guy just called its sold...

Never owned one, but you will find more ready avail parts IF you need them with GM.

Thanks. There is a G20 locally that emits a small amount of white smoke upon cold start every morning. Would you avoid this?

When the right one comes to you it will fall in your lap..... If you in a hurry you get what you pay for.

IF its just for 1 or 2,3 trips rent one at that time. Cause a van will cost you money.

Thanks. I want one as well for when we travel to Northern Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan for hiking, fishing and camping. I will definitely get use out of it and I expect things to be repaired. My friend just bought a 2000 E150 and I helped him change sway bars, shocks, radius arms, power steering gear box, upper and lower ball joints and leaf springs. Chicago van and it took up 6 hours to replace leaf springs because we had to torch and cut them out they were rusted solid.
