Hey all you Us folks out there - here is a great big thank you and regards to you all for your hospitality which made our trip so awesome.
We arrived in LA Aug 4, picked up the rental and drove to Long Beach, bought a ATTnT sim card for calls and data..we hadn`t pre booked any accom (apart from the week in Memphis during Elvis week). So checking the i-net we found a great boutique hotel in LB, we ended up staying there a few days, went to LB swap meet, did the Queen Mary thing and geneally had a good time, back to LA for a couple of days then off to Memphis, had a great week in Memphis, had a private tour of the Jerry Lee Lewis ranch, then another rental - off to Tupelo, Nashville, Branson, meeting up with friends - old and new along the way.
Then a flight to NY, stayed with relIies for a week visiting NY - and generally DOING the tourist thing.- my cousin gave us one of his spare cars to use, a Lincoln Town car, pretty similar to my Ford Fairlane LTD here at home
Left NY for San Fran picked up another rental, saw Jerry Lee Lewis at the Thunder Valley Casino then next day drove to Lake Tahoe to catch my friends (Bobby Brooks Wilson) show at the Harrah.Stayed in LT acouple of days then took a slow n easy drive to Vegas via Death Valley.
Did so much in Vegas --- Shelby Museum, Pawn Stars, Counts Customs, dinner every nite with friends who showed us the non tourist side of Vegas.. Marina made the most of the shopping at the casins and outlets. We were invited to take part in the filming of an episode of Pawn Stars , unfortunately we were heading off next morn for LA..
WE HAVE BEEN TO THE USA TWICE BEFORE BUT THIS WAS DEFINATELY A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRIP.
After a week in Vegas we headed back to LA stopping at Peggy Sues Diner of course. MORE FOOD!!
Back in LA we visited Paradise Cove where they shot scenes of the Rockford Files, Had a very nice lunch there,
Also visited Angels Flight the historic Tram in Downtown LA - this was the title of one of Micheal Connely books, featuring the Harry Bosch character.
Sept 9 , back to OZ.........
RE VAN CONTENT...... While staying with my cousin we visited a couple of grea car shows, then he told me he had a Chevy Van sitting down the back of his 6 acres, its going to the scrap yard he said, anything you want just help yourself,, Xmas in Sept !! I only really needed trivial stuff, acc pedal, swirches, knobs, cb radio, window / door latches.. all the stupid stuff easy to find there but not here. Would you believe everything I took only weighed 10kg packed so as we had 15kg to spare in our luggage we just brough it home. USA ROCKS... HA..
Thats it, thanks again, we came back with many new friends, and our friends and rellies here at home and the Uk followed our trip with great interest.
cheers
