Does anyone have any ideas to help me update my off white, 5 section factory roof panels? I'd like to keep them in in order to use the nice plastic moldings and crossbars which fit perfectly. I can repaint these parts to match the new upholstery but will newly covered sections fit into the crossbars or is there some other way to do this other than putting up some sheets of paneling? I'd prefer using crushed velvet material with some foam padding underneath. Any ideas will be great. Thanks !!!

Pictures? What are the factory panels made of? Anything with upholstery will likely be thicker than the stock ceiling panels, so the stock crossbraces likely won't fit. I was able to keep the factory plastic trim around the windows of my brother's 1983 Dodge shorty van and install a fully upholstered ceiling with custom cross-braces.

Windows- they're what make a van worth owning!

Thanks Reed, I guess I'll have to remove a couple of the panels to see if the steel roof supports are directly under the crossbars. Then I can mount the new ones up by making some bigger crossbars and attach them up that way. The plastic trim around the whole roof is in like new condition and I hate to waste it. I can paint it and reuse all of it but the roof panels are only made of stock Masonite.
