What's the most common size of a rear bed in an old school van and where can I purchase a mattress? I'm starting from the beginning, will build the frame with storage underneath but have no idea what size to build it ??? Any suggestions ???

Don't know about most common, but we're doing an RV short queen.

My2%

If it's for two, and sleeping across the van, then a futon size will work pretty well.
An RV short queen is 60" X 75".....better for sleeping length wise.
We've been using a futon with a foam topper in our GMC because it's much thinner and still sleeps very well. We sleep crosswise in the van.
We like the thinner part as it allows a little more room under the bed for storage without bumping our head.

Thanks CatFish, forgot all about using a futon mattress. I'm building it the old way for sleeping two laying across the back of the van. My other vans had them already built in and I just added a foam topper but this one is being built from the ground up. It's been so long I can't remember what we used in the 70's ??? LOL !!!

I always reinforced the wall at the foot of the bed as that was always the part of the wall that got pushed against while sleeping, rolling over and .....well....other activities. devil
