We're making up a list of projects to work on at our next long-term stop. One of them is to replace the O-rings on outer transmission parts like the neutral safety switch, dip stick, etc. I am having trouble sourcing these though and don't exactly know what to call each part. So far only found the dip stick one. Thoughts?\

There's a kit on eBay that looks to have every o ring and seal you could think for a 727 it's 60 or so bucks.

I like:

http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com They have diagrams you cna look at to find the names of parts.

Also, http://oregonperformancetransmission.com is good, too.

And there is always good old Rockauto.

If you are wanting to replace all the outer seals on the tans, you will need the output shaft seal, the gear selector shaft seal, the dipstick tube seal, the transmission pan gasket, and the NSS (neutral safety switch/neutral start switch) seal. All the other seals require removal and/or disassembly of the trans to get to (the front pump seal, all the clutch pack and servo seals, etc...) Really, this shouldn't cost much more than $20 in parts.

Thanks, Dw89xj & Reed. I'll check out the sites.

Reed, I didn't realize I could do the shaft seal without removing anything? Are you talking about the main shaft? I'll look into the gear selector shaft, dipstick tube and neutral safety switch seals.

You can do the output shaft seal that fits into the end of the tailshaft housing-- the one that fits around the driveshaft. The input shaft seal sucks. It is a $5 part but you have to pull the engine or trans to get to it.
