BabyG,
More thoughts.
So if you don't have a single Serpentine belt system, there will be no tensioner or idler bearing. A seperate belt for each driven component, as per your post.
As you know, not easy to diagnose. Check for any suspect noise. Be careful troubleshooting underhood with the engine running. Carefully examine all belt driven accessories with the engine running, and off. Check all belt tension. Maybe an incorrect belt. Cycle the AC on and off with the engine running to check the AC clutch bearing. A bad one is very noticable.
Been there recently, 300 miles form home. Drove it back towards home, (into my free AAA 200 mile tow range,) from Santa Rosa to Clovis, until the box of rocks noise became too alarming. Good times.
A seized V belt driven alternator bearing will sound exactly as you described. Had that happen too. At idle the component was frozen, but the belt still turned, making increasing squealing noise with RPM.
Drove it 100 miles home. 327 SBC. Single V belt driving water pump and alternator. Boy was that an adventure.
Hope you have success with this mission! HooRah!
