I recently purchased a second van. Its a 1974 G10 with a manual trans and no power steering or brakes. The body was shiny and it moved, well sort of. It got home but its set for over 8 years so old gas and carb rebuild time. The big problem I am having now is someone in the past converted over to a custom steering wheel, but in the process they removed a lot of the upper steering column parts. The problem is no parts store has a listing or diagram for what I need. The dealer just said "good luck." I think Its just a turn signal cam and the preload spring that is missing. Its not the same column at all as the pickups with the ignition in the column. I am thinking the 1967 non tilt pickup column will be the closest parts, but without a parts reference I can not see if they are the same parts or not. Its crazy but the vans seem to have become the forgotten models. I can get anything for a truck or car of the same year, but ask for parts for a van and they look at you cross eyed.

Here is what I am stuck with except for the aftermarket wheel and three bolt adapter. No preload on the upper bearing so there is a LOT of slop just in the column itself. That and the turn signal canceling cam is gone. Anyone have reference material to at least start to track down the missing parts?

I found a listing for the turn signal canceling cam on gmpartswiki.com. It does use the same cam as a 1967 truck non tilt. I called the dealer after I found the number and they confirmed. From what I am reading on the truck forums it may not use a spring like the later style column. I will order that part and see where things end up slop wise.

The turn signal cam was all that was missing from the column. For this year there are no springs. The 70's adapter I had on the van did not preload the column enough but the new Grant wheel kit did. Now the column is tight, the turn signals turn off and the horn works.

I know that's right. I had to go all over town to get a lug stud... because even though I needed the same stud that a 1/2 ton truck uses, the parts places only showed they had the heavy duty studs, which I guess were for 8-lug axles.

Cool that you got your column all figured out.
