Intermittent grinding noise rotational | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 125 member | OP member Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 125 | I had my shocks changed out and I changed my power steering fluid. About 20 miles afterward a grinding noise that is definitely rotational showed up. I checked the trans fluid and its clean, clear and has no burning odor, Trans not slipping, all up and downshifts good -even in kickdown mode, however intermittent noise rises and falls more with engine rpm rather than wheel speed. I checked the ebrake and its operating properly stopped or in motion. Checked u joints, no clicking or unusual movement. Noise present on acceleration but fades with speed or by taking foot off the throttle. All vacuum and emissions functioning properly.
Any ideas anyone? 305 F code automatic. Thanx, Doone

What fluid did you use? | | | Re: Intermittent grinding noise rotational | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 125 member | OP member Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 125 | Thanx for your reply, Ive only put about 50 miles on since fluid change. I used a fresh bottle of STP ps fluid If I put in wrong type, I can change it out again, I hope its no biggie, should I have used dexron atf?

I've have had quite a few bearing failures in the Rotating assembly on the Serpentine systems in my "Newer," model Vans. West Texas is HARD on vehicles...
Also half a dozen Alternator bearing failures of the years. An AC clutch bearing failure will make that noise as well. Try and isolate it with a mechanics stethoscope. BE Extremely careful.
Daaaamn Ben, and I thought I was an Old Dog... Cheers! | | | Re: Intermittent grinding noise rotational | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 125 member | OP member Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 125 | Thanx 4 your reply, I just changed out the ps fluid again and will take 4 a cruise tonite to see if that eliminated that possibility. I dont think its the alt as I changed that out about 1500 miles ago and it works fine. I will check out the a/c clutch next, hadnt thought of that, it blows real cold and theres no burnt smell in that area. I will get a hold of a stethoscope to listen to the idler pulley and belts as you suggested. 'Preciate your help pardner, lots of open space between those west Texas towns I hear.
