Replaced the 20 year old gaskets on the 76, the new Fel-Pro composites leak worse than the old ones I took off. Run the engine a few times hoping the heat would cause the gaskets to expand and retightened the pans a couple times, with no luck. Leaking on the rear bottom corners on both pans. I used RTV to attach the gasket to the pan, but no sealant on the head side. Any suggestions. I bought a set of cheaper Fel-Pro cork gaskets today and will try them.

I have had good luck with those steel gaskets with silicone coating.

Windows- they're what make a van worth owning!

3M trim adhesive to the valve cover. Then Ultra Copper Permatex to the head. Tighten.Let cure overnight. Tighten again.

Tucson-it's a dry heat...like an oven

Check that the valve covers aren't warped or dented on the mating surface. Also the sheetmetal around the bolt holes often gets pulled into a peak around the bottom of the hole. When using cork gaskets I prefer to coat them entirely with rtv in a thin even layer and let it mostly dry before installing which helps them to seal, hold up longer and resist splitting from over torquing the fasteners.
