So I'm gonna rebuild my damaged hood scoop and I'm wondering what the thoughts on a ram air type set up are?

I'm in Ireland so I'll have to put in some type of filter to be able to drive in heavy rain without too much water coming in the intake. I'm thinking a panel style air filter under the hood or even a layer of scotchbrite as a filter should keep the water particles small.

I was thinking that I would make an under hood feed straight into the frying pan style stock filter housing. I run a dual fuel system running on propane too and the mixer is in the stock air filter housing so I probably have to stick with that.

Will it actually improve performance or is it a waste of time?

Cold air induction is definitely not a waste of time. That is why all vehicles today use it. A cold air intake system can be as simple as a hose zip tied (cable tied) to the end of the air filter housing snorkel running to someplace wher eit can draw cool air. I say make the scoop functional. The only thing I would worry about is making a water dam on the bottom of the opening and making a drain at the low point of the hose. Otherwise I would just run a hose to the end of the snorkel from a fitting on the bottom of the hood.

Agreed, it can only be beneficial as long as you keep excessive water out of the air cleaner.

OK guys thanks for the info. I always thought ram air and cold air intake were the same thing but from what I've been reading ram air involves modifying the intake air pressure and can cause issues with running on carbs. A cold air intake is a bit more straightforward and as you guys have said it's a good idea.
