Was planing on doin a whole drive train swap. But now the more I drive Min Bull around the more I'm ok with the power it has. But I really don't like the three speed trans. The one know of a four speed/ over drive trans that can be swapped in to a 83 b-150 with a slant six?

Rear gear must be considered. Just a 4 speed swap will actually hurt mileage.

@astrocreep66 is is 4 speed? Electric or hydraulic controlled over drive?
@hasan Ben sober the 3 speed a727( 36rh later 37rh) the the later a518 ( 46rh) have the same gear ratios 1-3 but fourth in the a518 has a gear ratio of .69 to improve gas mileage and increase cruising speed on high way.

What I really need to know is if these trans have the same bell housing bolt pattern? Since the a727 was used on slant six, 60s-70s hemis and power wedge motors. Then the a518 replace that trans completely when dodge dropped the slant six then went to v8 and v6 engine only in the 80s

There were several factory four speed manual transmissions (overdrive and non-overdrive) available behind the slant six over the yesrs. However, there was never a factory four speed automatic available for the slant. The A500/518 transmissions have a smallblock engine bolt pattern which is different than the slant six bolt pattern.

Prior to 68, when the slant six was mated to a 727 it was a smallblock trans connected via a factory adapter plate. In 68 the slant got its own 727 with the slant six bolt pattern and the adapter plate was dropped. If you can find an old adapter plate, you can use it to mate an a500 or 518 to the slant.

You can't just toss a OD tranny in a vehicle and expect good results. If cruising speed is below where the rpm where the timing curve is in , you'll actually get worse MPG's than with just a 3 speed. OD needs gears that are 3.55 or higher (numerically)

In that case, you will need to either track down the 60s era adapter package to mate a smallblock trans to a slant six, or use an adapter plate to mount a brand X transmission to the slant. People have done GM transmissions (I think a 700R4), and I think GM would probably be the best way to go. The factory adapter plate is kind of hard to find because you need the plate and the spacer and the special bolts for it.

Like Hasan Ben Sobar said, rear end gears MUST be considered. If you have a slant 6 with three speed auto and 3.55:1 rear gears and then throw at A500 OD trans at it, your final drive ratio will be too low and will most likely hurt your MPG rather than help it. . .
