The Heater core was no issue, and the A/C evaporator in the dash, accumulator, and compressor hasn't been an issue, but that's where the simple stuff ended. I ordered a condenser based on the vehicle info, and it was wrong. Every single option had the inlet and outlet on the same side of the condenser, while mine has the inlet and outlet on opposite sides.. Eventually, we were able to find the correct condenser from a G30 with a diesel Eventually, we were able to find the correct condenser from a G30 with a diesel This van is a 305 with a 4 speed manual. I wonder if that combination caused the odd configuration with the diesel condenser? At that point I figured I was probably in for a ride trying to source the dual hose assembly that goes from the compressor to the condenser, and to the accumulator. After looking at several parts stores, and all over online, I concede, I need help. Here are a few pictures of what I need. The thin line goes to the drivers side of the condenser, and the thicker line goes across the top of the engine bay to the accumulator. I am not sure what the small cylinder is on the one line, but it is kind of rusty and I'm concerned about re-using this hose due to the age, and the previous compressor failure (shrapnel/shavings everywhere). I can't seem to find an A/C hose assembly that looks anywhere close to this thing. Looking across multiple years/models/engines. I've even tried some of the tried and true GM parts sites with diagrams, and can't find anything. Can anyone help? Thanks!

The small "can" in the hot gas line is a sort of muffler to absorb/smooth out some of the compressor pulses. You may end up at a AC shop like Scott said. Get ahold of some of the local car clubs and ask those guys if there's someone local you can take the old stuff to to be copied. I would trust their recommendations first, some of them are (almost) as picky as you are......... Just kiddin' (they're not that picky)

Thanks Catfish. I'm working on a few A?C shop leads locally.. Here in Northern IN it's not a huge industry as it's never all that hot here..
Gladiator, I looked on that site you mentioned the other day, and I found a couple, but none that looked right. I do not have rear A/C. There was one assembly that looked kind of close, but it had the extra tube that (I'm assuming) goes to the rear A/C. Could I just use that and block off the other tube? | | | Re: 1985 G20 305ci/4 Speed - A/C Hose Confusion | Joined: Oct 2016 Posts: 294 Likes: 6 enthusiast | enthusiast Joined: Oct 2016 Posts: 294 Likes: 6 | I ended up using a different catalog, if you're using diesel parts with no rear a/c it seems 15562567 is the proper part, however after a quick search I don't see any new old stock. 15562568 is the one for if you have rear a/c, you might be able to cap it off, but from the price I saw for it, you'd want to still ask an a/c shop to make you a custom one.

That is the closest I've seen to the right configuration for the hose, however, mine uses the short stubby looking compressor, while that diagram shows the longer style. Looks like I may just have to get this custom made.. | | | Re: 1985 G20 305ci/4 Speed - A/C Hose Confusion | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 9,855 Likes: 234 carpal tunnel | carpal tunnel Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 9,855 Likes: 234 | Hmm.. Looks like I may just have to get this custom made.. New hoses, made to seal in the R134a, will be lined. Hmm. So you're thinking you'll keep the old style compressor? Just a thought here for discussion ....... since you're getting the hose made anyway and the old compressor is actually an old R12 unit, you might consider swapping to a later/different/more efficient type made to handle the R134a. The GM rotary compressors are power hogs. Know any tuners that might have a compressor they don't need/want? One that would do the job without sucking quite as much horsepower? Again, just a thought.... | | | Re: 1985 G20 305ci/4 Speed - A/C Hose Confusion | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 1,015 Likes: 19 old hand | OP old hand Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 1,015 Likes: 19 | hmm.. That is a thought. But at this point though, I just need to get it put together with the least amount of hassle and don't feel like having to fabricate anything. I've already got the new compressor and it's mounted too... I have never had an issue converting R12 systems to R134. I've done it on probably a dozen different vehicles and have never had an issue that wasn't self inflicted. Honestly, if the wife wasn't demanding the A/C be fixed, I wouldn't even worry about it since I only have about a 2 year timeline before I plan on swapping to an LS engine and then I'll have to re-figure out the compressor again anyways. If this setup makes it 2 years, I'll be thrilled. | | |
