Is this a problem? My manual doesn’t mention greasing it and it seems like only a handful of the guides online mention greasing that spot. Is this oversight gonna bite me?

Van is a 93 Chevy G20

Do you recall the matter in which the two fit together?
If your torque converter and flexplate fit together well and fit-up against each other, that is if you didn't use the bolts to pull them together, then I don't believe you have any problem.
If the center bore should bind during assembly or doesn't fit properly, and there's a gap between the flexplate and TC, the bolts should never be used to "pull" the two together.
That could bend the flexplate and cause trouble for sure.

Thanks frscke and catfish.

It seemed to me like they fit together fine. The torque converter spun freely in side the flex plate. I did have to pull the converter to the flex plate with the bolts slightly..
