I have hand written calcs on mileage and mpg from the first owner in 1984. He was getting 14-17mpg in the same van. I haven’t done better than 15. Most often closer to 12. There wasn’t ethanol back then, can’t think of any other changes that would make that big of a difference.

Ethanol does have a lower stored energy than pure gasoline, but there are many reasons other than fuel mixture to explain a 3-5 MPG drop over 33 years. I wouldn't stress about finding ethanol free gasoline.

Got more zip. Mileage is up a little . Same tbi .160,000 miles takes its toll in efficiency. I drive all over the country and buy all kinds of gas. I can't really tell any difference ethanol or not but haven't really checked. It seems I go the same distance on a tank though. When I'm on the road for three or flour weeks I don't really care I just buy it. | | | Re: Mileage modifications | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 2,027 Likes: 51 veteran | veteran Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 2,027 Likes: 51 | Dunno how the availability of it is over there but LPG conversion is one way to save money.
