Are all Chevy front fenders from 1971-96 the same? I'm in need of a driver side fender for my '78 and am hearing from a few sources that 1971-77 are different from 1978-1983, which are yet again different from 1984-96. Is that just hogwash?

Looking at them, they are all the same but I would hate to hack off a fender from a random Chevy at a salvage yard and get it home to find it won't work for some reason.

I know that's true for the doors and side panels but the fenders are smooth aside from the body line that wraps around the hood, have no middle body lines on them and all look the same to me. Am I crazy?

The 88 I got to fix my 93 wasnt the same as it sat different on the mount points, forward an 1/8 an in an 1/8. The grill mounts were in a different place also. Cosmetically on the outside it might look the same but unseen things make it different.

When you say ft fenders your talking about the ft qtr panel, right, the pc that has the badges on it ?

I used a cut out piece from a 1992 on my 1985, but I only used the outer skin around the marker light area and it was all the same. You might be alright if you are only using the outer sheet metal.

The entire outer front fender, or quarter panel like so:

I found a '75 in a salvage yard but would prefer to make sure the fender will work on my van before I head over there and cut the thing out.

If the only difference is the grille and/or headlight mounts, that's not a huge concern because I've got the entire pre-'78 grille & headlight setup I plan on using. I just want to make sure the fenders can be welded on without too much headache.
