I have an 81 lwb Chevy g10. I'm thinking about building a 4x4 van I'm starting to gather parts to do the conversion.i found a 92 1 ton van with a 454. Would like to use the engine transmission and rear end out of the 92 as the body on the 92 is shot. Would like to know what's best to use for the front I might be able to get a Dana 44 but I think it's out of a Ford. ( Does that matter?) And also what kind of transfer case do you guys recommend? I'm not very mechanically inclined. But I've worked on my own vehicles in the passed and I'm not stupid.. I understand that this is a big job, but I'm going to be buying a kit from bolder off-road. And probably going to have a shop do the install. I just want to get all the right stuff before hand. Thanks in advanced!!

Welcome to the site 81nomad ....

I have a 92 & 93 454 G van. My biggest question is ... does the vin on the G30 start with 2GAGG39N ...if so they made very very few of those. As my 92 only 16 made & my 93 they only made 3 of them.

Please check the vin before your gut it. A G10 is not the ideal van to convert to a 4x due to the light structure of the vehicle. The G30 is a very tough van, that would be the one to convert.

Here's the story of my 4x...

Hello 81nomad, and welcome to the site!

Food for thought. Detroit in the front is pretty hardcore, but the Dana 60 is 8 lug like your G30. Good hunting!

This is the ideal one ton crawler setup. Dana 60 for the front, Drivers side drop, already geared 4.56, plus detroit lockers front and rear. You'll still need the NP205 transfer case, plus driveshafts. Etc. Lots of other goodies listed.
Very likely the same axles used on Big Red.

Good Wrenching!

And here's a NP205

Check out the current 4x build thread by Overdrive915, also the Lunchbox2 4x build thread. Many other 4xs on here as well.

Stay warm up there and have fun!
