Help! I've got another new game. I call it, "IS THIS BROKEN TUBE IMPORTANT & WHAT IS IT FOR?"

I was under the rear of the van and spotted this broken tube. I see NO leakage whatsoever but I can't seem to figure out what it is for... and I can't find any fluids that are low. WHAT IS THIS FOR?? I can't follow where it goes (as seen in the last picture)

Possible Hint: Years ago, this 74 van had air shocks where you would inflate the shocks at an air pump. However, the air shocks have since been disconnected.. could this tube possibly have something to do with that prior air shock system?

UPDATE:

Someone on Facebook contacted me... I had no idea what the hell he was talking about so I took a look on Youtube for "air vent for the axle." Here is the video I found:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=322...

So.... Its now fixed thanks to him identifying what the heck it was. BUT here is my next question: It likely has been like that for the past 15+ years... Now that it is re-attached, is there anything I should check? For example, did it possibly cause it to leak liquid or something from the rear axle? It drives fine... but figured I'd ask.

Vent tube for the axle. Almost certainly no damage to the axle unless you were driving the van at severe angle causing axle lube to leak out or you drove through deep water causing water to get into the axle through the vent. If you are really really paranoid about it, you can change your rear axle lube.

Windows- they're what make a van worth owning!
