This is likely a dumb question, but can anybody tell me the cheapest place to buy a TRANSMISSION DIPSTICK for a 1974 Ford E100, V8, van?

The only place I could find is on Ebay and they want $28.21 (including shipping)l.
Here is the link for what I found:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BTP-7404-Straight-Transmission-Dipstick-/311850110138?fits=Year%3A1974%7CMake%3AFord%7CModel%3AE-100+Econoline&epid=776532377&hash=item489bb70cba:g:vPoAAOSwJ4hY9eyt&vxp=mtr

I was just curious if there is a cheaper place to buy it from? I did check the larger/common website such as carparts/autozone/etc, but I can't seem to confirm compatibility with my van on those websites.

Here is a photo of my van where the dipstick is (see below).. I'm looking to replace my dipstick because there are NO markings on my dipstick so I'm trying to just replace it so I know exactly how much transmission fluid is in it. That seems a lot easier than dumping all the transmission fluid and refilling it/etc...

ooo, good luck. You might try getting a dipstick from a junked lated model Ford van and comparing length and markings on the dipsticks. Maybe a later one will fit?

Alternatively, maybe get the transmission to a point where you know it has the right amount of fluid in it, let it get hot and idle in Park (since it is a Ford), pull the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert the dipstick, pull it back out, note where the fluid level is, then scratch your own "FULL" mark in it.

Windows- they're what make a van worth owning!

Hi Puzzle,
I have a 1990 Ford E-150 van with an auto trans and the previous owner broke the dipstick off where it changes from steel strip to tube. It took right around three weeks to find the one I have. I found it by chance from someone who knows someone etc.... It came from the manufacturing plant in Illinois and I was told that I have the last one in existence and was told to treasure it. It took the man 3 weeks to find it, it was so far buried the original packaging had disintegrated. When I received it I measured and made specs so if it broke I could make another one. Reed has the right idea, BUT make sure you are on a totally level surface for it to be correct. If you found one on ebay consider yourself lucky. When I was on the hunt, i could not even find one there. While you are on the hunt, you might consider looking for an oil dipstick as well because they are just as hard to find. Happy vanning and rock on......

It turns out I RELUCTANTLY ordered a new dipstick specifically for my van. It ended up costing me $26.44 shipped. However, nobody else had it for sale and it just seemed silly to go through the trouble draining the fluid and refilling it. But this new dipstick better friggin' have the damn line on it so I know how much fluid I need. In the event anybody needs one, the ONLY place I could find it for sale is here:

Okay.... I feel goofy posting this, but perhaps this will help somebody else. I replaced the transmission dipstick. I'm taking a photo so somebody else knows the precise measurements if the issue ever comes up so they won't have to go through the same baloney I did. It might help them.
