So the top part of my roof vent, the part that tilts up, is pretty much disintegrated....whoever painted the van painted this plastic part and it's crumbling away.

I can buy a new one for cheap.........or should I plug the hole with a thick piece of metal, like some heavy duty flashing? Visually it looks kinda goofy to me in the first place....would I regret it later if and when I start camping in it? (which will be a long way away right now)

On a breezeless day I don't think we could live without ours. Lived in it for five years and it was crucial to pulling air in through the open windows. After hail destroyed the cap of ours we finally decided to upgrade to a maxx air which is like a Cadillac compared to the old tiny bladed fan that we had been living with. However, if you are only going camping now and then you could always just put a fan in the window to pull air in and probably be happy with that.

I could also put in a 17x17 pop up glass sunroof, but it's a bit pricey new.

I always hear those sunroofs leak. Stick with the dome. And you can get screens to keep the bugs out.

On my first van, I had a pair of those. I had been a car stereo installer and rigged power antenna motors to raise and lower them. And I had amber 1156 light bulbs lighting them up. The light idea I stole from a dude I went to high school with in the early 70s.

Einstein, when describing radio said "Wire telegraph is like a very long cat. You pull his tail in NY and he meows in LA. And radio works the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat."

Sunroof. They all do not leak if installed correctly and you by a quality version. I have two in mine with no leaks But it is in a garage when not used.
