So I had a coolant leak and replaced the upper radiator hose and then noticed that I had a major leak in the heater hose going from the motor to the heater core(?) I'm not a great mechanic but that's what I gather. When I pulled that off it took the copper(?) pipe fitting with it out of the heater core. I had to cut that pipe out of the hose in order to reuse it. Needless to say I was able to get that piece of pipe back in but it is not sealing within with the heater core. There are no leaks between the hose and the copper pipe, just between the pipe and the heater core. I see newer 350 V8's have plastic connectors or threaded fittings which my 76 GMC does not have.

Is there something I can do to seal this or a replacement part that would work?

Sounds like it's Time for a new heater core.

Bypass the core. Connect the two hoses together in a loop. No more leaky.

"Might" be able to braze or solder the connector back in.
New cores are available at most auto parts stores. Might even get
a decent one at pull a part even cheaper.
Big question is, do you need heat?

Thanks guys. Went with the bypass for now to get me through the summer fall and then figure out what from there.

Any good links etc for pulling the dash and doing the heater core?

Yup, I'm in Central Oregon (just moved from colorado) and my van is a 4x4 Camping machine. Plan to be hitting up different ski areas in PNW on weekends in the winter so will definitely need heat.

Search youtube for video's on replacement of the core. On the 76 do you even need to pull the dash. I replaced the core on my 79 Blazer and had to remove the glove box to access it. Lots of Chevy how-to forums that are loaded with info.

Thanks I'll definitely jump on youtube, that's pretty much how I've figured out how to fix anything so far. Was just thinking there might be something specific on here related to pulling the dash but it would be awesome if I didnt have to.
