'76 Chevy window channels are so tight I can barely move the windows

I replaced the rubber window channels in both of my doors, and now they are so tight against the glass that I can barely open or close the windows. They cranked up and down easily before I made this change, so I don't believe the problem has anything to do with the regulator. Has anyone else had this problem? mad

I've sprayed lubricant on the seals, which helped a little.

Well, this doesn't make me feel to confident. I was just about to do mine on the dodge. Where did you purchase yours from?

I bought them from LMC. After 3 days of cutting my hands and arms wrestling with them, I took a razor blade and cut away some of the rubber so it didn't squeeze the glass so hard. Now I can roll them up and down with one hand. I'm afraid to try to install the inner and outer lower pieces.

I also replaced the seal that runs the perimeter of the doors. It takes a while to figure out how to 'clock' them correctly so that all of the pins line up, but once I found the right orientation it was an easy job.

Did you have any issue closing the doors with the new rubber? I have it all for my 73 and want to tackle that project.

No, the doors close easily. I have noticed that the door sticks out a little at the bottom, but it's closed at the top. That's a common adjustment problem. It's not bad enough to worry about.

I am having a similar issue with the windows on my 75. I replaced the window channel felts and when I roll them up, they go up easily until they get 3 to 4 inches from the top and stop. It is the same for both the driver and passenger sides. Is my only option taking apart the whole works and trimming the felts somehow? It would be nice if there was a simple adjustment. I'm sure this is a problem that many have had. Any tips?

Older model 3rd gen Chevy vans have a separate thin felt strip on the vertical part.

You need to cut off the part of the rubber that goes into the vertical channel and use felt, like it was from the factory.

I was having the exact same problem the other day who installing new window felts... I’m also having problems getting the scrapers to fit into the holes on the inside lips of the window slot.

Is there a particular order to install all of the seals and channels?

Glad I'm not alone in this struggle! I was able to put one of the sweeps in on one door. I think those would be the last to be put in. I still don't know how I'm going to put the other one on and be able to roll the window up. Seems like it is going to be way too tight. More mods will probably be necessary.
